Posted by u/Chicky11111 18 hours ago Office Manager texted me to confirm that it is ok I don't get paid my full paycheck tomorrow. I can't make this up. The Office Manager TEXTED me this morning and said my "time card fell through the cracks" and I

will be short 20 hours this paycheck. (She does payroll herself on Quickbooks.) She TOLD me to confirm in writing that that was ok or she would "try her best to start a new payroll." I told her "Start a new payroll." and I called her boss. Her boss didn't answer because apparently they were on the phone and my Office Manager texted me 5 minutes later saying "you will get paid with the 20 hours included."

She then victimized herself and said work has been -SO- busy with the end of the year reports and she was struggling. Ok so I wasn't going to get paid because you failed to prioritize payroll for a 2 person office staff? Herself included.

About 2 weeks ago, she was doing payroll from home and said she couldn't process mine because she didn't have my time card. LUCKILY for her, I photocopy it for my own files and I sent her a picture of it to make sure I was paid. (And I was.)

What is going on here?! What is this? What am I dealing with? I updated my resume and applied to a few jobs. I don't want someone to play games with my paycheck and I don't want to have anxiety every 2 weeks wondering if I'm getting paid or if I'm going to have fight for my paycheck.

UPDATE: My paycheck was deposited as of this morning. I'm still looking for a new job. Your comments are so insightful and helpful! After reading through them, I come to the conclusion that it's a matter of her as a person (disorganized, lazy, careless) and poor money management. She should not be in charge of accounting. That probably won't change either. She's been there for 3 years. 3 years and still can't do her job right.

Meatrocket_Wargasm 17 hr. ago When a company starts having payrolls issues, it's time to look elsewhere. It sounds like they don't have the money for payroll when they should and are playing shell games with employees payroll. This is a huge red flag. It's also possible that your office manager is a complete buffoon who thinks it's ok to mess with peoples incomes not once, but twice in one month. Either way, I'd start looking for an exit plan. Justinterestingenouf 15 hr. ago I agree too except this seems like not a full payroll problem. Did you insult this person? Like why is only your pay being affected?. Glad you're getting you're affairs in order to get out, cause, ick.

Chicky11111 OP . 14 hr. ago There's only 2 of us on payroll. I work alone 99% of the time. But I noticed something was off with her (always dramatic, always the victim, very negative) when I trained with her. I really love my job so I brushed those interactions off and did not feed into them. Maybe that bothers her so she's stooping low to my paycheck? I don't know. I literally log in, do my work and log out.

WeedFinderGeneral 6 hr. ago Dude, if there's only 2 of you, there's zero excuse. Like did she just think "oh I guess so-and-so just decided to go part time, cool"? Reply Share 41 Chicky11111 OP . 6 hr. ago Right and the fact that she thought I would be ok with this! Or try to manipulate me into saying "ok, I confirm that's ok!" Whaaaat? The audacity!

BornInPoverty 15 hr. ago I bet the Office Manager's time card didn't "fall through the cracks" too. I bet it was very carefully protected. Reply Share 123 Chicky11111 OP . 15 hr. ago I said the same thing. There's no way in I also don't think she thought I photocopied my time cards every week and she REALLY tried getting out of not putting my other time card through payroll. Absooooolutely not. So shady!!!

CoverYourMaskHoles 14 hr. ago I manage payroll from my position... no. Do a special pay. Do anything to cut the check for the correct hours. Reply Share 34 Chicky11111 OP . 14 hr. ago Right... that was my immediate thought as well. I cannot imagine telling the ONLY other employee "sorry, you won't be getting a full paycheck. Confirm that's ok with me! MY BADDDDD"

BrisGuy1979 16 hr. ago . Ask them to confirm in writing the company will compensate you in full, and immediately for any fees, charges, or negative impacts caused as a result of any future late or incorrect payments, including co-signing any loans should your credit rating be impacted.

Dry-Stable2701. 13 hr. ago I took a verrrrry basic finance class, and the one thing he stressed is the last thing you mess with EVER is payroll, everything else is secondary. Someone needs to have that conversation. Took almost nothing else from that class, but this dude is a regional CFO.

BeckToBasics 11 hr. ago getting paid to be on reddit As someone who deals with payroll in QuickBooks, it is not time consuming or hard at all. For 2 people? I'd be shocked if it took more than 5 minutes. Either she is terrible at her job or is fishy
